Can I contribute bitcoin directly into my IRA?

No. Under IRS rules, IRA contributions must be in US Dollars. The exception would be if you are already holding bitcoin in an IRA with another provider (Choice, iTrust, BitIRA, BitcoinIRA, etc) and want to do an “in kind rollover” of the bitcoin from the old IRA to the KeyKeeper IRA by Unchained. That is only allowed if your old provider allows it, and most of them don’t. Unchained Capital has no control over whether the old provider will allow an in-kind rollover or whether it must be in USD. We can never do an in-kind rollover if your old IRA is holding GBTC (Greyscale). The GBTC will be liquidated to cash, and the transfer between IRAs would happen in cash. Please consult with your tax advisor regarding the tax implications of any rollover.
