What is a Cash Management Account?
A Cash Management Account (CMA) allows for the use of USD within the Unchained platform.
CMA account structure
U.S. Dollars held in your CMA is managed by Gannett Trust Company, LLC. (a subsidiary of Unchained) and secured using one or more partner program banks. As the CMA account holder, you serve as the grantor and sole beneficiary of the account. Upon your death or disability, cash held in your CMA is assigned to your estate.
Note: An Unchained CMA is not a bank account. When you deposit cash into your Cash Management Account, it may be allocated across one or more partner program banks.
How can I use my CMA?
Your CMA allows you to:
- Hold USD cash on the Unchained platform. Gannett works with its partner banks to to allow for FDIC insurance for each CMA customer up to $250,000 per account per depositor, per bank, per ownership category.
- Send and receive cash from a linked bank account via ACH or wire transfers.
- Buy and sell bitcoin using your USD balance.

Does my cash earn interest?
Cash balances do not currently accrue interest. Funds in your CMA are maintained on a 1:1 basis and are administered solely for your benefit.
Will I receive a debit card with my CMA?
Debit cards are not currently available for CMAs. However, we’re actively exploring new account tools and features.
Can I set up a direct deposit?
Direct Deposit is not currently available. However, we’re actively exploring new account tools and features.
Can I write checks from my CMA?
No. At this time your CMA may not be used to write checks.
Can I transfer my cash balance to another Unchained account I own?
No. You U.S Dollars held in your CMA may only be withdrawn to one of your linked bank accounts.
Can my CMA balance be used for loan payments?
No. At this time your CMA may not be used to manage active loans.

Cash custodied in a CMA is FDIC insured up to $250,000, inclusive of any deposits that you already hold at Gannett’s partner banks in the same ownership capacity.
