Why isn't my BitBox connecting to my computer?

There are many possible reasons for your BitBox not connecting to Unchained. Try troubleshooting these issues.

You may occasionally experience errors when trying to use your BitBox. Consider the following issues, in order from most common to least.

First troubleshooting steps:

  • You may have completed steps out-of-order. Refresh your browser, start over, and follow exactly the steps shown on your account.
  • Your BitBox may be trying to connect to the BitBoxApp instead of your browser. Close the BitBoxApp, refresh your browser, and try again.
  • If it’s still not working, physically unplug the BitBox, refresh your browser, and try again one more time.

Additional troubleshooting steps:

  • Your browser may block the connection or be incompatible. Use one of our supported browsers.
    • Google Chrome: allow unchained.com to send pop-ups in your pop-up settings. Also enable third-party cookies in your cookies settings.
    • Firefox: change your security settings to custom and turn everything off (unchecked), including the Block pop-up windows and Block dangerous and deceptive content options.
    • Brave Browser: turn off your Brave Shields. Also enable third-party cookies in your cookies settings.
  • Outdated firmware can cause connection issues. Update firmware on the hardware wallet using the BitBoxApp.
  • Your cable might not be connected properly. Ensure the connection on both ends of the cable is connected correctly.
  • The USB port on your computer may be faulty. Try plugging into a different port.
