Why did I receive a small, unexpected deposit to my vault?

You can't prevent others from sending you bitcoin. Some people try to use this as a form of advertisement.

Occasionally, people receive tiny deposits (called "dust") to their bitcoin wallet from an unknown source. The amount will often be 0.00000546 BTC, the minimum allowable in most cases.

From a security perspective, this is nothing to be concerned about. The most likely explanation is that someone is attempting to promote or advertise something, such as a cryptocurrency. There may be some message encoded in the transaction, which would waste your time investigating.

Our recommendation is to ignore the tiny deposit.

Note: Every deposit creates a UTXO, leading to higher transaction fees when moving your bitcoin around. If you want to minimize the impact of a tiny deposit on your transaction fees, you can either consolidate it with your other UTXOs or leave it behind while transferring bitcoin. We have a video guide walking through both procedures.
