I already own bitcoin in an IRA. Can I transfer it into an Unchained IRA?

How to convert your bitcoin IRA into an Unchained IRA through an in-kind transfer

Yes, as long as your current provider allows for it. If you already have a bitcoin IRA with another provider, you can execute an "in-kind transfer", allowing you to transfer the assets over as bitcoin. You will need to speak with your current custodian to see if they allow for in-kind transfers. If they are unwilling to send the bitcoin in-kind, you can request the bitcoin be sold and transferred via USD check or wire.

Test deposits

Many custodians will send a small amount of bitcoin to your Unchained IRA vault as a test deposit before sending the entire amount. By default, Unchained will show you a new deposit address after the test amount. This is further explained in this article. Your custodian can send the bitcoin to any address associated with your vault, even if that address is not the one shown by the Deposit button.
